چکیده

Timing Constraints and the Allocation of Time: The Effects of Changing Shopping Hours Regulations in the Netherlands A 1996 change in shopping hours regulations in the Netherlands provides an opportunity to study the effects of timing constraints on total time spent in shopping, working, and other activities as well as the timing of these activities. We develop a simple structural model to make predictions about the effects of imposition and relaxation of a timing constraint on time use patterns, and utilize time diary data from 1995, 1997, 1999, and 2000 to examine time use patterns by demographic group before and after the change. In addition to a change in the timing of shopping, we find a non-negligible increase in the total time spent shopping. JEL Classification: D12, J22

Abstract Introduction: The nursing workforce shortage or its inappropriate distribution is one of the major problems in hospitals. This study aimed to determine the optimum number of nurse staff in the emergency department of a teaching hospital. Method: This is a descriptive-analytic cross-sectional study. The study population included patients' medical records admitted to the emergency depa...

Budgetary Constraints and Idle Time Allocation in Common-Cycle Production with non-zero Setup Time

Economic lot size scheduling problem (ELSP) for a multi-product single machine system is a classical problem. This paper considers ELSP with budgetary constraint as an important aspect of such systems. In the real world situations the available funds for investment in inventory is limited. By adopting the common cycle time approach to ELSP, we obtain the optimal common cycle which minimizes the...

Maximal covering location-allocation problem with M/M/k queuing system and side constraints

We consider the maximal covering location-allocation problem with multiple servers. The objective is to maximize the population covered, subject to constraints on the number of service centers, total number of servers in all centers, and the average waiting time at each center. Each center operates as an M/M/k queuing system with variable number of servers. The total costs of establishing cen...

Optimal Allocation of Ships to Quay Length in Container Ports

Due to the continuously increasing container trade, many terminals are presently operating at or close to capacity. An efficient terminal is one that facilitates the quick transshipment of containers to and from ships. In this sake, this paper addresses the ship assignments problem at a maritime container terminal, where ships are normally assigned to specific quay cranes until the work is fini...

A Multi-Mode Resource-Constrained Optimization of Time-Cost Trade-off Problems in Project Scheduling Using a Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, we present a genetic algorithm (GA) for optimization of a multi-mode resource constrained time cost trade off (MRCTCT) problem. The proposed GA, each activity has several operational modes and each mode identifies a possible executive time and cost of the activity. Beyond earlier studies on time-cost trade-off problem, in MRCTCT problem, resource requirements of each execution mo...
